Thankfulness:  Rotary- Life House Thanksgiving Dinner
By Dan Dock

Rotarians from the Downtown Rotary and the Skyline Rotary Clubs put on a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner for the homeless youths at Life House. The youths went through a buffet, served by the Rotarians. Many of these youths took food “TO GO”. For a meal for Thanksgiving Day dinner.

For many of these children, MOST who are homeless, this was likely their only Thanksgiving Dinner.  Nothing goes to waste.  The statements of Thankfulness from these homeless youths were touching.

Thank you to all that helped with this great event:

A special thanks to, Gary Schneider for cooking the food, First Lutheran Church for support of cooking the food, and Super One for suppling the food and supplies.

Before we know it --- CAMP RYLA 2026!

My name is Creede McClellan, a member of the Rotary Club of Superior, and I’m serving my second year as your District 5580 RYLA Chairperson. I attended RYLA as a camper in 2015 and have returned nearly every year since as a facilitator. Last year came with a learning curve (and a lot of sticky notes), but I’m feeling much more grounded heading into 2026. I’m excited to continue growing our reach and helping more youth across our District experience the power of RYLA.

New: Website and Key Links
We’ve updated the RYLA website with new materials, timelines, and forms to make this year easier for Club Liaisons, campers, and families.

We’ve opened camper applications starting December 1 so you can begin sharing the link with school counselors, educators, and students right away. This eliminates the delay from years past when the form didn’t open until the new year.

News from Rotary of Duluth Youth Exchange Student Bergen Hubley in Brazil

This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND
I chose to study abroad to grow as a person and see more of the world before beginning my university experience at St. Catherine’s in St. Paul. I’ve spent the past three months living in Rio Grande do Sul, first in Gramado with my host mom Patricia, her children Betina and Lucas, her boyfriend Moacir and his daughters, and their dog Dora, and now in Canela with Juliana and her dog Lira, while her daughter Clara is abroad in Canada. I’ve bonded easily with both families.  We cook together, go on walks, and take little day adventures around the state. My routine here isn’t very different, though I definitely sleep a bit later thanks to the amount of coffee we drink down here. I attend Danton High School from 7:30 to 12:30, and because the school day is short, I’ve joined Portuguese immersion classes, a choir, and started going to the gym.

I love the food, music, traditional clothing, and drinks, especially chimarrão, and I’m grateful for the amazing support system I’ve found here, even while missing my friends and family back home.  Being surrounded by a new language has taught me that with hard work, patience, and a willingness to be uncomfortable, things that once felt impossible become easier every day.

I’m excited for what’s ahead: more travel, improving my Portuguese, and meeting new people.  Thank you for your wishes, prayers, and kindness. My contact information is below.
God bless and happy holidays, Bergen Hubley.
