Twin Ports Trains: The Historic Railroads of Duluth & Superior
Zenith City Press founder Tony Dierckins—a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Duluth resident since 1984—has written more than two dozen books, from the fun and fascinating Duct Tape and WD-40 books to critically acclaimed illustrated histories celebrating the history of Duluth, Minnesota, and the western Lake Superior region (listed below). Along the way, Dierckins has written three Northeast Minnesota Book Award winners and two Minnesota Book Award finalists and is a past recipient of the Duluth Depot Foundation’s Historic Preservation and Interpretation Award. He has also developed a reputation as an entertaining and engaging public speaker and has become an accomplished book designer, creating layouts for not only Zenith City Press books but also those produced by ZCP’s publishing partner, X-Presso Books.

Dan Dock could use a little more putting up the tree at the Boys and Girls Club on Tuesday, December 3 from 1:00-3:30pm. Look for information about the Life House Christmas Party soon, it will be held on Wednesday, December 18.
Friday, December 6, at 7:30am. Fellowship breakfast at the Kitchi Gammi Club. Come join us for a delicious breakfast, a chance to catch up on everyone’s plans for the holidays, and to share your stories.
Monday, December 9, at 5:00-8:30pm. Our annual Holiday Party! Join us at the Northland Country Club (3901 E Superior St). Heavy hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. Nick Hyde, DJ and violinist, will provide music for listening and for dancing! $45 per person for a wonderful evening. Please RSVP

On behalf of The Salvation Army this Thanksgiving we are truly grateful for the Duluth Rotary Club 25. A fun fact. Since 2008 Duluth Rotary Club 25 has raised $44,473.97 in the Red Kettles! Thanks to all Rotarians who answered the call!!

Can you believe it – 73 years!!!
Kiwanis Club of Duluth played host to Club #25 Rotarians for our annual joint Thanksgiving meeting. Past President Dr. Susan McClernon welcomed her fellow Kiwanians, members of Club #25 and a large contingent representing Duluth’s finest Police and Firefighters. Dr. McClernon played a welcoming message from Kiwanis Club of Duluth President Cyndi Lewis.

Dr. McClernon recognized 2024 is the 31st Annual Food Drive, representing years of cooperation between Rotary of Duluth Club #25 and Kiwanis Club of Duluth for the benefit of Duluth area families. For the past decade, our two clubs, with help from Miner’s Super One, have more than 32,000 pounds of food and thousands of dollars. That’s Service Above Self! Captain Anthony Nordan led Club #25 in this effort, taking the reins from long-serving Food Drive Chair Past President John Baumgarten.
This is our 31st Food Drive jointly sponsored by Club 25 and Kiwanis!
Dr. McClernon welcomed Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj to the podium, who gave well-deserved praise to the men and women of the Duluth Fire Department. Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj then awarded the 2024 Kiwanis Firefighter of the Year to Captain Bob Mielke. Captain Bob Mielke thanks his fellow Firefighters and his family for the honor,
Police Chief Mike Ceynowa stepped up to share the accomplishments of the 2024 Kiwanis Police Officer of the Year - Dana Letica. Police Officer Dana Letica expressed her gratitude to her peers in the Duluth Police Department for voting for this special recognition among her peers.

A Full House… beats hunger!
Thankfulness Exemplified at Rotary Life House Thanksgiving Dinner
Rotarians from Club 25 Rotary and the Skyline Rotary Clubs put on a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner for the youths at Life House. They went through a buffet served by the Rotarians. Many took a dinner “to go.”
The statements of thankfulness from these homeless youths were touching.
Thank you to all who helped with this great event.

Did you know that Tom Homan is a former U.S. diplomat? According to the October 30, 2001, Gimlet, Tom served as Director of Communications abroad for the U.S. State Department. He spoke on "U.S. Foreign Policy in an Era of Change" less than two months after 9/11.
The masthead included recognition of Club 25's 90th year, and that our club "Gave Rotary the wheel" and "The City where Rotary became International," in reference to the 1912 convention held in Duluth where representatives of Rotary Club of Winnipeg Canada made it the first international convention.
