Highlights from Last Week’s Meeting
By Steve Yorde

On a “perfect Duluth day,” Duluth Rotary Duck Pluck made its debut with a giant splash—supporting   the Mental Health Access Program of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Northland and our Club #25 Foundation.
The Club met its fundraising and Duck Pluck sponsorship goals thanks to the generous support of Rotarians and friends who came together to adopt all 5,000 ducks in the name of helping our community’s youth.
A dedicated group of Rotarians worked extremely hard in the weeks leading up to Thursday’s special event, which also featured the Duluth Fire Department’s “Marine 19,” past president Sandy Hoff’s amphibious jeep and the giant Viant crane that hoisted all 5,000 ducks in a yellow “coop” then promptly dumped them into Pier B’s slip.
The numbered ducks were plucked from the slip by two Lake Superior Aquarium scuba divers then rushed to the shore where President Michelle Buria announced the winners. The Grand Prize of $3,000 was won by Todd and Sue Johnson of Duluth, who also won the $1,000 Third Place prize. The Johnsons immediately donated their winnings back to the Boys and Girls Club!  There was one $2,000 Second Place prize and ten winners of $100, including past president Jack Soetebier.  The full list of winners is listed online at https://www.duckrace.com/duluth.

Dragon Boat Volunteers Needed

As you all are aware, the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival is this weekend. They are in desperate need of some volunteers Saturday either on the docks, handing out life vests & paddles, or working the registration tent.

Superior Rotary President Robyn has even offered to provide a homemade dessert to anyone who picks up a dock shift, and if they bring a friend, she’ll also buy both of them a delicious Earth Rider beer!

Habitat for Humanity Dedication
You are invited to dedicate our newest home in Lincoln Park, the first Habitat home built in Duluth in almost a decade!

The Lincoln Park Home Dedication has been tentatively rescheduled to Sunday, September 8 from 2-3 pm.

Come celebrate its completion and our work with the Witherspoon family!
