Rotary Rose Sale
(No lunch meeting on Halloween)
Urgent: Support Needed—Help Move Extra Roses!
Due to overwhelming enthusiasm and some logistical and diligent over-preparation (based on numbers from previous years) we have an excess of 600 dozen roses. We are reaching out to our members to help move these at the cost of $10 per dozen.
Please consider purchasing ten dozen—$100 for ten dozen—or more.
Help our club successfully wrap up this fundraiser and make your friends and family happy by giving them the gift of roses!
How? Purchase dozens of roses by cash, check, or have the Club bill you.
When? Tuesday, October 29, from 9:00am until 3:00pm.
Where? The loading dock behind the Miller Hill Mall Super One.
Thank you all for your help!
Also, on Tuesday!
Paul Harris Dinner
This glittering annual dinner honoring Paul Harris, who founded Rotary in 1905, will be held on Tuesday, October 29, at 5:00pm at the Duluth Depot. "Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life,” he once said, and we are grateful that the Skyline Rotary Club will host this wonderful annual dinner.

On Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, Rotarians from Club 25 distributed roses by the dozen for the 39th year in a row. The Rose Sale is our largest annual fundraising event. The dynamic duo of Past President Gary Melander (Rose Sale Committee Chair) and Jon Ohman (Rose Sale Committee Co-chair) led the charge.
Rotarians, recognizable by their Rotary aprons and cheerful faces, staffed distribution points at Miller Hill Super One Foods, Mount Royal Fine Foods, West Duluth Super One Foods, and the Rotary Office downtown. Smiles abound as customers picked up gorgeous roses, both red and multicolored bouquets. “I get roses every year!” many said.
“I’m taking these to my mother-in-law, who is in the hospital,” one said.
“My late husband was a Rotarian,” a woman said.
“I’ll take a dozen red roses,” a man said, adding with a deadpan, “I’m known as Mr. Romantic.” A few minutes later, he was back. “I’ll take another dozen,” he said.
This year, for the first time, the annual Rotary Rose Sale featured a drawing for a dazzling romantic weekend in Duluth, thanks to the hard work of Jerry Thoreson. This beautiful getaway package, worth $1,080.00 intrigued many customers. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
One of the older women purchasing roses, after hearing that her name would be put in the drawing, said, “Romantic weekend? Why in the world would I want something like that? I’d much rather have a murder mystery themed event!” (Well, the package does include a tour of Glensheen . . .).
Meanwhile, back at the Miller Hill Mall Super One, Past President and Past Assistant Governor Al Makynen loaded up some roses and said, “I’m going to deliver these to nursing homes.” A lovely Rotarian gesture.
A warm Rotary thank you to everyone who purchased roses, distributed roses, or donated to the Rose Sale through the Rotary Club of Duluth Foundation!
