Growing Duluth and Rotary through Social Media
Our very own Jerry Thoreson will share the power of social media through the story of Destination Duluth, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Duluth as a Destination for Life! With nearly 200,000 Facebook and Instagram followers, they have the leading social media channel in the area. He will also share with the Club how to grow Rotary through social media.
The Kiwanis Club has been invited to join us for the 68th Annual Joint Meeting.
See the email of April 2 @ 1:53 p.m. from Michelle Buria for your link to our meetings.
Call Felicia at the Rotary Office (722-0451) if you have questions.

Highlights from Last Week’s Meeting
by Rob Hofmann

Rotary Club of Duluth President Michelle Buria, with technical support by President-Elect Dean Casperson and Techno-Rotarian Dave Nolle, launched Club #25’s first virtual Regular Thursday meeting! With additional help from Assistant Governor Kay Biga, technical issues involving video, audio and a screen-sharing test (it works!) were the first order of business.  Visiting Rotarians included Past District Governor Deb Warner, from the Virginia Club and
Past District Governor Gary Nolte from the Moorhead Club. President Michele Buria welcomed our newest Club #25 members, Katrina Pierson who provided a bit of her impressive background and her reason for joining our Club. Welcome Katrina!! Our second newest Club #25 member joined us from an undisclosed location in the field – Minnesota Air National Guard (148th) member Casey Erickson. Welcome Casey and thank you for your service!

More of Fellowship Meeting than a typical Lunch meeting, 47 Rotarians participated in sharing how Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz’s “Stay-at-Home” order was impacting their lives. A fascinating mix of individual Rotarian’s “homebases” were on display with some demonstrations of creativity.  Dave Nolle showed an image of the Golden Gate Bridge that for some reason was showing - not in the background as planned - but within his bodily form – an “Invisable Man” like effect. Paul Helstrom could be seen working from his home attic space, Zack Walters risked a Work Zone Fine for having his company logo in his background.  Tom Wheeler ZOOM-ed in from Tucson, AZ. Unfortunately, in the background, there were phone’s ringing a-plenty too. (For future reference Rotarians should silence their phone as if at the Holiday Inn!)  We did learn how to put yourself on mute. President-Elect Dean Casperson shared that through the use of Club #25’s ZOOM account, committee chairs are able to host committee meetings in the future. More information on this will be provided.   Past District Governor Deb Warner encouraged all to view a video message from Rotary International President Mark Maloney.

At our meeting next week we will learn more about ZOOM as our speaker Jerry Thoreson will screen-share his presentation. In addition President Michele Buria requested those with questions to be ready to use the “chat” option.  It was exciting to see Rotary Club #25 back in business and to see how technology can bring us together.

As a reminder, here are some helpful tips on how to join us on Thursdays for an AWESOME Club #25 meeting:

The first link explains how to attend a meeting:

This link shows you how to use your controls (mute, etc.)

This final link is for general support or any other questions you should come across.

In addition, in the event that difficulty does arise but you still want to hear our awesome speakers every Thursday, contact President Michelle prior to the next meeting and she can arrange to have someone help you.

Thanks Everybody & Stay Safe!!
