Arthur A. Michaud, one of the three men who promoted the organization of a Duluth Rotary club in 1910, was a charter member and the first Secretary of Club 25.
Michaud moved from Montreal to Duluth in 1888 when he was 2 years old. His father, who died in 1902, was manager of the St. Louis Hotel in Duluth and had interests in mining and other properties.
After his public school education in Duluth, Michaud attended the U or W, U of M, and Central Business College. At first he worked for John A. Stephenson & Co., a Duluth insurance firm. Then he became a partner in Burg, Hawkins, Michaud Co.
In 1910 he married Fannie Scribner of Duluth, who was educated in the schools of Superior, WI and attended Stout Training School in Menomonie, WI.
In 1911, Michaud took over his partner's business and became president of the A. A. Michaud Co., 301 W. Michigan St., handling real estate, loans and insurance. He and his wife resided at 1501 E. 2nd Street.
By 1914, Michaud and his uncle, J. T. Michaud, established an insurance business, which became one of the largest in the state, with offices in Minneapolis, St. Paul and the Providence Building in Duluth. Michaud was Secretary and Treasurer of the firm and his uncle was President.
Michaud then organized the Gopher Mutual Casualty Co., and became the General Manager. They specialized in writing compensation and casualty insurance. Michaud was a member of the Episcopal Church and Northland Country Club. His chief recreations were golf and motoring |
