Notable 1911: Euro-Royal Partygoing versus Rotary Club #25
1911 was an eventful year in Duluth’s Rotary calendar with the founding of Club #25. In London, far more extravagant celebrations fundraised a specific artistic cause. United for the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, the crowned heads and royal entourages of Europe partied their Shakespeare-themed night away in the Royal Albert Hall, ostensibly to sponsor a future National Theatre. Kings, queens, princes, princesses, even a Kaiser, re-enacted scenes and characters from Shakespeare with aristocratic excess. Dr. Quarmby commemorates both 1911 events and discusses the serendipitous association between two disparate moments in history that led him to Duluth.

MESSAGE FROM CLUB #25 PRESIDENT ELIZABETH SIMONSON
President Elizabeth Simonson
Dear fellow Club 25 Rotarians,
It is hard to get my head around the fact that 2024 is coming to a close. Where did the time go? We certainly have had a great year. Past President Gary Melander led the way the first half, while I had the tremendous honor of taking the helm for the second half - something I take very seriously.
You’ve heard me say time and time again how much I love this club, and I mean it. We continue to be a strong, vital club, with interesting programs, tremendous fellowship and opportunities to make a difference in our community. Service above self is what we do!
I look forward to January, when we really dig into our survey results and plan for how we will move forward in making this club even more meaningful and beneficial to all.
Club 25 is still my favorite - hands down!
I wish you all a very, very happy and safe New Year and I hope to see you all on January 9, 2025.
Sincerely,
President Elizabeth Simonson

From the Winner of the Rose Sale Duluth Holiday Weekend Giveaway
“My wife Michelle and I want to thank you and Duluth Rotary #25 for making this year's
Rotary Rose Sale bonus drawing a terrific experience for us. I'm sure we are not the
only people who live in Duluth that take for granted what we have to offer the many
tourists and visitors to our beautiful city and region. We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel
(Pier B Resort). We had dinner there (Silos Restaurant) and a several late night
cocktails. We loved the Cinderella play and took our grandson to Bentleyville.
Please let all of the generous companies know their donations were very much
appreciated. We hope that Club #25 will continue to provide this added bonus prize for
future Rotary Rose sales.”
