Welcoming Rotarians and guests, Prez Tricia Bunten led the group in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the Rotary 4-Way Test. In light of today's speaker, Tom Wheeler reminded all that change is a constant in our lives and encouraged all to embrace change.
As it has been a quiet week in the Northland with little mention of Rotarians in the news. Fellowship Reporter Michael Orman used his creativity to find ways to fill the Golden Can. He knew the DNT article “Lawmaker proposes legalizing marijuana in Wisconsin” would not pass the 4-Way Test, so he found an item in the Chamber Xpress welcoming new member Alice Buria. Daughter Michelle Buria was willing to step forward and contribute. Past Prez Sandy Hoff is always involved in something in the community and this time it was his work on the upgrades to the Duluth Board of Trade Building with developer David Dubin. Dubin is also doing work in Lincoln Park and Mike Orman paid for that, as well. Bill Gronseth self -reported that he had articles in two local weekly papers in the past week. Proud dad Jim Olson's son Trevor has been selected as UND's “Fighting Hawks” hockey team captain and his daughter Jada was named to the Dean's List both semesters with a GPA of 4.0. UMD has been doing a study on sounds in the Great Lakes and Marc Seigar, Associate Dean of that department, happily stepped forward to pay a work zone fine. Sheryl Homan came forward stating that her daughter had graduated from college by squeezing four years into six. The Duluth Rowing Club had a successful regatta and Jenny Peterson gladly added to the Golden Can to celebrate.
Attending their final Rotary meeting during their time as Exchange Students, Philipp Adler from Germany and Louli Ponce from France thanked the Rotary Club for their wonderful year in Duluth. Our third student, Picha Budda returned to her home in Thailand last Sunday. Thank you to all who made their stay a memory that will last forever for them.
Chairperson of the Day and Past Prez Dan Bergeland had a hard time finding today's speaker at home in Duluth when contacting him to speak to our club. The first time he connected with our speaker, Marty Weintraub was in Australia preparing to leave for the outback; the next time Dan connected with Marty, he was in Germany. That’s because Marty Weintraub of Aimclear is a major speaker and consultant for companies around the world. Marty started his professional career as a touring musician. He fell in love with Duluth and the BWCA when he visited. Marty has made Duluth his home since starting his digital marketing agency, Aimclear. Each day from Duluth, the company impacts the world with clients such as Uber, Ebay and Firestone, to name but a few. Their team members travel the world speaking at conferences sharing ways to improve digital marketing. The key to their success is simple: take care of your people. Most of their staff members are initially found via partnerships with UMD and CSS. They also work closely with and support the Duluth Chamber of Commerce's FUSE program that is designed to keep college graduates working and living in Duluth. Aimclear and Marty truly believe in using Duluth as an international launch pad. The Club 25 Grants Committee is accepting applications to provide funding to qualifying organizations in the Fall, 2017. For more information on the criteria for receiving funding from Club 25, review the Grant Guidelines. To apply for funding, the organization should complete the Grant Application Form. All applications are due to Bri, bri@duluthrotary.org, by August 15th. If the organization received a grant from Club 25 last year, a Final Report must be completed prior to being considered for further funding.

Rotary International President-elect Sam F. Owori died unexpectedly on July 13th due to complications from surgery. Sam was a member of the Rotary Club Kampala, Uganda, for 38 years. In a letter sent to the leadership of Rotary Clubs around the world, RI President Ian Risely wrote, “there has been an outpouring of heartfelt messages since President–elect Sam’s passing last week. Rotarians and members of the public have been sharing memories and recalling how Sam inspired them through his hard work as a Rotarian and as a dedicated civil servant. From the countless volunteer hours to the grants issued, this Club Served Humanity in the Duluth area and around the world. The Local Grants, Community Service, Junior Rotarian Program, Youth Exchange Program, Environment and International Grants are all funded by the fundraising efforts of the Rose Sale, Coupon Book, Prime Rib Dinner and Auction, Trip Raffle and the 50/50 raffle and Golden Can during the regular meetings. The $76,120 that was raised by YOU allowed Club 25 to do amazing things this year!
Outside of the projects that are funded by our Club fundraisers, there are still many ways that Club 25 makes an impact. The $46,555 raised for Food Drive, RYLA, The Rotary Foundation and The Rotary Club of Duluth Foundation are excellent examples of Club 25’s commitment to Service Above Self. Thank you to the Club 25ers who contributed!
Rotarians Chana Stocke, Skeeter Moore, Karol Sowers and Corey Collier joined Rotary staff and Rotaractors for a fun-filled carnival at the Boys & Girls Club.
