In 1910, Edward (E.F.) Spink lived at 4331 London Road with his wife, Ida L., and his sons, Edward, age 6, and Lyman, age 2. He worked on his own, running a real estate office.
A year later, Spink became one of the charter members of the Duluth Rotary Club 25 with the classification of Real Estate. Spink was then the President of J.D. Howard & Co., established in 1911 at 209-212 Providence Building, dealing in real estate, loans, general insurance, and surety bonds.
Spink's father, Edward J. Spink, was born in Germany in 1850, came to America and married an American woman from New York. Spink was born in Illinois in 1877 before the family moved to Duluth in the 1880s. Spink's father, a printing press operator, began working with the Duluth Herald when it started on April 9, 1883.
In 1903, when E.F. Spink was 26 years old, he married Ida, who was of German ancestry, but born in Wisconsin. Both their sons were born in Minnesota. In the 1920's E.F. Spink and his family moved away from Duluth. By 1937, when his father died at the age of 87, E.F. Spink was living in Rochester, New York. |
